The real “Center”of Maine...Newport, Maine is located in the Southwest area of Penobscot County, twenty five (25) miles west northwest of Bangor. It is at the junction of Routes 2, which connects travelers with the Canadian Maritimes and New Hampshire and Vermont and Route 7, which starts in Belfast and ends in the Central Maine town of Dover and also is the direction that one would travel to Moosehead Lake. Newport also boasts several I-95 interchanges. This geographical and strategic location has made Newport a regional manufacturing and commercial center, serving the surrounding communities of Dexter, Corinna, Palymyra,Etna, Plymouth and Pittsfield. Newport is one of 38 Regional Service Centers identified by the State of Maine Planning Office. |
